Dhaka: A three-member delegation from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) today made a courtesy visit to Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Kayser Kamal, at his office in the Parliament building.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the delegation included John Joseph Lis from the USA, Nenad Marinkovic from the Republic of Serbia, and Maria Chowdhury from Bangladesh. The discussions during the meeting covered a wide array of topics such as parliamentary activities, the introduction of research-based projects, and parliamentary culture and practices. They also explored the use of Italian software for e-Parliament, the strengthening of legislative and administrative functions, and the structure and roles of parliamentary committees.
The meeting also delved into enhancing accountability within parliamentary processes, the history and tradition of the parliament, budget allocations, and the activities of the Public Accounts Committee. The practice of opposition walkouts was another subject of discussion.
In response to various queries, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal outlined his plans for the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, emphasizing his dedication to making the parliament more effective and dynamic as a hub of democratic practice. The IFES delegation expressed their satisfaction with the Deputy Speaker’s insights.
Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Kaniz Mowla and other relevant officials were present during the meeting.
