Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today set May 12 for submitting the probe report in a case lodged against 10 individuals, including former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, concerning alleged genocides and crimes against humanity committed in the city’s Uttara area during the July-August mass uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order, granting the prosecution’s request for an additional two months to submit the report. The list of accused also includes Awami League (AL) Uttara East unit education affairs secretary Md Shahinur Miah, its Uttara West unit president Monowarul Islam Chowdhury Robin, AL Gazipur city unit organizing secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, Uttara sector 6 AL president Md Bashir Uddin, Jubo League leader Delwar Hossain Rubel, former officer-in-charge Mozibur Rahman, assistant commissioner Javed Iqbal, and constables Hossain Ali and Omar Ali.
The tribunal also scheduled March 16 and 18 for the interrogation of Mozibur Rahman and Javed Iqbal, respectively. Additionally, an arrest warrant was issued against three former police officials for genocides that occurred in the city’s Rampura area during the same mass uprising period.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam participated in the hearing before the tribunal, with prosecutors Abdus Subhan Tarafder, Md Mizanul Islam, BM Sultan Mahmud, Gazi MH Tamim, Md Shahidul Islam, Abdullah Al Noman, Moinul Karim, and Tarek Abdullah present, among others.
