Dhaka: The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today received a formal complaint regarding the enforced disappearance of BNP leader Chowdhury Alam from the city’s Farmgate Indira Road area back in 2010. This development marks a significant step in addressing allegations surrounding the case that has remained unresolved for over a decade.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the complaint was filed in writing by the victim’s son, Abu Sayed Chowdhury. In his submission to the chief prosecutor’s office at the ICT, he accused 18 individuals, including Awami League leader Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, of being involved in the disappearance. Other accused individuals named in the complaint include Major General (sacked) Ziaul Ahsan, Rear Admiral Md Sohayel, Colonel Md Muzibur, and several others.
The incident in question took place on the evening of June 25, 2010, when Chowdhury Alam was reportedly taken by plain-clothed security personnel from in front of Kalindi Apartment in the Indira Road area. Despite the passage of time, Alam’s whereabouts remain unknown, leaving unresolved questions and a lingering demand for justice and accountability.
