Dhaka: The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has filed its probe report in a case filed over the killing of Abu Sayed during the July mass uprising, bringing charges against 30 people, including policemen. Confirming the matter to newsmen, prosecutor Mizanul Islam stated that the probe has brought charges against the individuals in the case over the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the senior prosecutor mentioned, “We are scrutinising the report and are hoping to file a formal charge in the case next Sunday at the ICT-2.” The first tribunal had previously granted the prosecution one month to submit the investigation report in the case. It also allowed the tribunal’s investigation agency to interrogate accused former sub-inspector of police Amir Hossain and former constable Sujan Chandra Roy on June 18, along with former proctor of Begum Rokeya University, Shariful Islam, and general secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) varsity wing, Imran Chowdhury Akash on June 19.
The tribunal had shown these four individuals arrested in the case on April 9. The prosecution stated that before the killing of Abu Sayed on July 16, 2024, the then proctor Shariful and leaders and activists of BCL attacked the university students and forced them off their campus. At one point, two policemen shot and killed Abu Sayed from very close range, as per Muhammad Tajul Islam’s earlier statement.
The family members of martyr Abu Sayed filed a complaint against 25 individuals on January 13 over his killing.
