Istanbul:ICT Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam emphasized the importance of trust, capacity-building, and international cooperation for responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector during a speech on Tuesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Minister Anam delivered his remarks at the opening session of an interregional conference titled 'AI Governance in Practice: Practical Use Cases, Institutional Capacity, Innovation at Scale and Global Cooperation.' The event in Istanbul is organized jointly by Korea, Türkiye, the Astana Civil Service Hub, and the UNDP, gathering ministers and senior officials from the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Asia-Pacific region, along with representatives of UNDP and international development partners.
Minister Anam highlighted that AI is already impacting government decision-making, public services, and development processes. He identified trust, capacity-building, and international cooperation as essential principles for effective AI governance. Quoting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's address at the UN General Assembly, he stressed that AI should help reduce existing disparities rather than create new inequalities.
He called for technology transfer, skills development, and affordable access to modern technologies to ensure that AI benefits are widely distributed. Additionally, Minister Anam expressed hope that the conference would foster innovation, trust, and inclusive technology, ensuring no country is left behind. He reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to supporting this initiative.
