Dhaka: The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today filed a formal charge in a case against eight people, including former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU), Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, over their alleged role in crimes against humanity committed during the July 2024 Mass Uprising on the university campus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the development to the media but chose not to disclose the identities of the other accused individuals. He expressed concern that revealing their names could lead to some of them, who are still at large, going into hiding.

"During the July Mass Uprising, the then central leaders of Chhatra League and several people, including then VC of Dhaka University, made provocative statements and conspired to facilitate attacks on the protesters. They attempted and abetted such acts. On these allegations, we filed a formal charge today," the prosecutor elaborated.
