Dinajpur: The authorities of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) have named 79 Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members for their alleged involvement in attacking general students during the July Uprising near the university area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Khademul Islam, Director of HSTU’s Public Relations Department, confirmed the release of the list in the afternoon. The list, signed by the university’s Registrar, Professor Dr. Abu Hasan, was published following a decision by the HSTU Regents Board on September 9.
On July 16, 2024, a violent confrontation occurred between BCL activists from HSTU and demonstrators protesting against the quota system in jobs. Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 of the previous year, university students affiliated with various political organizations, alongside general students, have been demanding strict action against those involved in the assault.
The HSTU administration categorized the 79 individuals allegedly involved in the attack into two groups. Forty-one students, classified under category “A,” have been accused of carrying out armed attacks on general students, while 38 students, listed under category “B,” have been accused of opposing the students.
