Dhaka: Home Adviser Lt. Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chwodhury (retd) today highlighted the importance of raising public awareness to combat the issue of mob justice. "It is not possible all the time to control mob justice by the law enforcement agencies. So, it is required to create awareness among the people to stop the recurrence of mob justice. We are taking those involved in mob justice into custody," he stated in response to inquiries about government actions to end mob justice.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized the increased vigilance and activity of law enforcement agencies to prevent future incidents of mob justice. Speaking to journalists at the Tourist Police Headquarters at Fareast Tower on Topkhana Road, he urged parents and relatives to monitor their children to ensure they do not engage in harmful activities such as mob justice.
He also highlighted the crucial role that media can play in educating the public to prevent mob justice. In response to a query regarding the authority of civilians conducting home searches in Gulshan, Jahangir clarified that only law enforcers have the right to conduct such searches.
Addressing concerns about highway robberies ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Home Adviser mentioned that law enforcers have been instructed to increase their efforts in preventing such crimes. He also stressed the necessity of strengthening the Tourist Police by recruiting additional personnel, providing vehicles, and establishing a permanent headquarters on its own land to support the vital role tourism plays in the national economy.
