Home Adviser Urges Police to Work for People’s Welfare Sincerely.

Barisal: Home adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today emphasized the need for the police force to demonstrate their sincerity in serving the public, highlighting the unique position of the current interim government, which operates without political influence. He pointed out that this situation provides the police an opportunity to work with honesty, efficiency, and impartiality, urging them to commit to serving the country and its people.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury made these remarks during a view-exchange meeting held at the Gratitude Hall of Barisal Police Lines. The meeting included divisional level officials from various law enforcement and security units such as the armed forces, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Ansar and VDP, Department of Prisons, Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense, and Department of Narcotics Control. He underlined the significant role law enforcement agencies play in controlling commodity prices and urged them to p
revent extortion to maintain their reputation and honor the sacrifices of the martyrs of August 5.

Chowdhury stressed the importance of community policing as a means to uphold law and order. He instructed law enforcers to avoid making arrests in plain clothes and to ensure proper verification of identities before bringing individuals under the law. Addressing the concerns related to poor living conditions and inadequate toilet facilities in various police stations, he directed senior officers to prioritize resolving these issues for the benefit of the policemen.

Furthermore, the home advisor mentioned that the armed forces have been granted magisterial powers for a period of two months to assist the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
