Home Adviser Calls on Police to Maintain Neutrality in Election Duties

Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged all members of the police force to execute their election-related responsibilities with utmost responsibility, integrity, and professionalism. “Every police member deployed in the field during elections will represent the trust of the people. The police must act in a neutral manner,” he emphasized.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser made these remarks while inspecting a training workshop at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Training Academy in Rajarbagh. The workshop aims to enhance the efficiency and capacity of police personnel tasked with election duties. During his inspection, the adviser provided directives regarding police responsibilities during the pre-election, election-day, and post-election periods.



He highlighted the significance of national elections, stating that conducting them is a major state responsibility and that the role of the police is crucial in ensuring a fair and peaceful process. He also mentioned that the government is taking comprehensive steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming 13th national parliament elections.



The event was attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, Additional IGP (Development) of Police Headquarters Sardar Nurul Amin, and Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) of DMP Md. Sarwar, along with other senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.



The inspection was part of the 23rd batch of a three-day training workshop designed to strengthen police capacity and efficiency ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum. To date, 22 batches have been completed, successfully training 18,150 police personnel. The program aims to train a total of 24,342 personnel through 28 batches at 19 venues across the DMP area.
