Narayanganj: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today urged the members of the law enforcement agencies to maintain loyalty, honesty, and professionalism in discharging their duties. ‘Maintain professionalism, honesty, and loyalty while performing duties,’ he emphasized during an event held at the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, six police vans were distributed to Narayanganj District Police and Industrial Police-4 on behalf of the BKMEA at the programme. The adviser highlighted that a significant number of police vehicles and equipment were damaged during the July Revolution, and the interim government has initiated various efforts to mitigate these losses.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury underscored the necessity of continued cooperation from government and private sectors to enhance the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies, thereby contributing to a safer and more prosperous Bangladesh. He also highlighted the critical role of the ready-made garment sector, especially knitwear, as a major economic driver, emphasizing that its sustainable development hinges on secured industrial zones, stable law and order, and cooperative relations between factory owners and the administration.
He praised BKMEA’s donation as an exemplary instance of public-private partnership. Addressing the withdrawal of a BNP-nominated candidate from the Narayanganj-5 constituency election, the adviser noted it as a personal decision and refrained from further comment. On security issues, he mentioned that individuals can personally assess the situation and encouraged journalists to investigate the reasons behind such decisions.
Additionally, he informed the attendees that Sharif Osman Hadi is receiving medical treatment in Singapore, appealing for prayers for his recovery and acknowledging his significant contributions as a July movement fighter.
Special Assistant to Chief Adviser (Equivalent to State Minister) Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury attended the event as a special guest, with BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem presiding over the programme. Other notable attendees included Industrial Police Chief Gazi Jashim Uddin, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Raihan Kabir, Police Superintendent Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi, Industrial Police-4 Chief Md. Asaduzzaman, and BKMEA Vice President Md. Morshed Sarwar (Sohel).
