Hockey Champs Trophy: Walton Dhaka taste first victory beating Rupayan City Cumilla 4-3

Walton Dhaka tasted the first victory in their 2nd match of the first-ever franchise-based Champions Trophy Hockey Bangladesh 2022 beating Rupayan City Cumilla by 4-3 goals at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Monday.

 

In their previous matches, Walton Dhaka conceded a 1-2 goals defeat against Mettro Express Barisal while Rupayan City Cumilla beat Monarch Padma by 3-2 goals.

 

In the day’s match, captain Ashraful Islam two successive goals in the 7th and 19th minutes, both from penalty corners while Indonesian player Alfandy Aly Surya scored a field goal, the 3rd goal for Dhaka, in the 20th minute (3-0).

Captain Sohanur Rahman Sobuj reduced the Cumilla margin in the 21st minute from a penalty corner (3-1) while Indonesian Alfandy Aly again widened the Dhaka margin in the 24th minute from a penalty corner (4-1).

 

Malaysian player Kim Sung Yeob scored twice for Dhaka, first from penalty stroke in the 32nd minute while another from penalty corner in the 39th minute to reduce the margin (4-3), but failed to avoid the defeat.

Six franchise teams–Acme Chattogram, Mettro Express Barisal, Monarch Padma, Rupayan City Cumilla, Saif Power Group Khulna and Walton Dhaka–are taking part in the new look inaugural hockey meet.
