Rangpur: The Highway and District Police have agreed to collaborate in an effort to enhance passenger safety and ensure smooth traffic management in the Rangpur division during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this decision was made during a special coordination meeting held at the Highway Police Rangpur Region Headquarters. The meeting aimed to ensure the safety of people's lives and property on the highway during the festive period. The event was presided over by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Highway Police Rangpur Region, Mohammad Tariqul Islam.
The meeting was attended by Officer-in-charges (OCs) of seven police stations of the Highway Police Rangpur Region, ASP of Gaibandha District Circle Rashidul Bari, Circle SP of Lalmonirhat District Jayonta Kumar, and Traffic Inspectors Belal Hossain of Panchagarh district and Noor of Rangpur district among other police officers.
The attendees emphasized the importance of coordination between the Highway Police and District Police to ensure the safe movement of commuters during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Discussions focused on managing traffic and addressing challenges at key traffic junctions in the Rangpur division, including Gobindaganj, Palashbari, Barodorga, Taraganj Bazar, Dashmail, and Saidpur Shutkir Intersections.
Strategies were developed to address these challenges, including moving all types of three-wheelers and auto-rickshaws to side roads at important junctions. Additionally, the meeting decided to clear shops and parking from these junctions and designate specific areas for picking up and dropping off passengers.
SP Tariqul Islam highlighted that district and highway police will jointly implement these measures. Special check posts will be set up in Barodorga, Taraganj, and Doshmile Highway police stations to monitor fast motorcycles, microbuses, and DJ parties of teenagers before and after Eid to prevent accidents.
Participants in the meeting shared their insights on making the highways safer. SP Tariqul Islam instructed all police members to diligently perform their duties and warned of departmental action against those neglecting their responsibilities during Eid.
The police official expressed hope that the Eid journey on the highways of the Highway Police Rangpur region would be safe and relatively free of traffic congestion.
