Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Forecasted in Four Divisions

Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Rangpur, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Dhaka divisions over the next 48 hours. Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque informed BSS this afternoon that approximately 75 percent of areas in these divisions may experience significant rainfall. He also mentioned that around 50 percent of the Rajshahi and Chattogram divisions might receive rain, while 25 percent of Khulna and Barishal divisions are likely to see precipitation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after the next 28 hours, the frequency of rainfall may decrease in Rangpur division, but the intensity is expected to increase in Sylhet and Dhaka divisions. Rainfall is anticipated to persist in Dhaka division for the next two to three days. Meanwhile, Nor’wester (Kal-Baishakhi) accompanied by lightning may occur in different parts of the country.

In a separate bulletin issued this morning, the Met office predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning flashes in several areas of Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions within 24 hours from 9 am today. The bulletin further stated that rainfall might also occur in a few places over Rajshahi and Chattogram divisions and at one or two locations in Khulna and Barishal divisions, with moderately heavy to very heavy falls expected in places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

Daytime temperatures are expected to fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures should remain nearly unchanged across the country. The prevailing heatwave over Rangamati, Laxmipur, and Bandarban districts may subside. The highest temperature recorded on Sunday was 37 degrees Celsius in Rangamati, while today’s minimum temperature was 18.3 degrees Celsius in Mymensingh. In Dhaka, the sun sets at 6:26 pm today and will rise at 5:27 am tomorrow.
