Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has set January 4 for a hearing regarding the framing of charges against Ziaul Ahsan, the former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC). Ahsan is accused of involvement in the enforced disappearances resulting in the deaths of more than 100 people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member ICT-1 panel, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, issued the order and has officially listed Ziaul Ahsan as arrested in connection with the case. The decision follows the submission of formal charges by the prosecution on December 17, with Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presenting the charges and urging the tribunal to recognize three specific counts.
The tribunal acknowledged the charges and mandated that Ziaul Ahsan be presented before it on December 21. Ziaul Ahsan was apprehended in mid-August of last year in the Khilkhet area of the capital and remains in custody.
