DHAKA, March 7, 2017 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today summoned two people over the death of a man after falling into an open manhole in capital's Paltan area.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order asking the managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to appear before the court on March 19 to submit their explanations.
An unidentified man fell into the open manhole in culvert road area in Paltan last evening. Later fire service and civil defence divers recovered his body from the manhole.
The court passed the order on suo moto, taking a newspaper report on the sad incident. It also issued a rule asking as to why it shall not direct to take legal actions against the people responsible for the man's death and compensate the family of the deceased.
The court asked seven officials including Dhaka WASA MD, DSCC CEO and chief conservancy officer to reply the rule.
