DHAKA: The High Court (HC) today directed the relevant authorities to remove Dr. Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal from his position as Director General (DG) of the Department of Social Services (DSS) after he failed to vacate the post following his earlier removal. The HC also issued a ruling regarding the legitimacy of his continued duties in the position.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a High Court Division Bench, consisting of Justice Fahmida Quader Chowdhury and Justice Mubina Asaf, delivered the order. The bench instructed the secretary of the Public Administration Ministry and other concerned parties to enforce the court’s directives. The petition hearing was represented by Advocate Delwar Hossain and Muhammad Sajjad Hossain.

The situation arose following an October 11 report in a national newspaper that highlighted Dr. Kamal’s ongoing occupancy of the DG role despite having been designated as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). This prompted Advocate Muhammad Sajjad Hossain to file a writ petition in
the High Court, attaching the newspaper report as evidence against Dr. Kamal.

The report indicated that Dr. Kamal had been continuing to perform his duties as DG for nearly a month in defiance of the office order, which led to the court’s intervention and subsequent ruling.
