DHAKA, Feb 7, 2017 (BSS) - The High Court today ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately withdraw superintendant of Gaibandha police for failing to comply with court's order over torching Saontal homes.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order, asking also to withdraw the policemen those were on duty in Changari area in Gobindaganj on November 6, 2016.
The court had ordered a probe led by Gaibandha Chief Judicial Magistrate over the torching incident. The magistrate during his investigation found involvement of police in the incident but failed to identify them as the said SP did not supply the names of those policemen deployed in the area on that day.
"The SP has disobeyed the High Court's order by not handing over the list of his men. The whole force cannot be held liable for the misdeeds of couple of men. The law enforcing agency will have to gain the trust of the people," the court said in its order today.
The court also set March 9 for passing further order in this regard.
Earlier Gaibandha Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Shahidullah submitted the 65-page probe report before the concerned department of the court.
