The High Court today ordered police to
remove handcuffs of Saontal men from Gaibandha, who are taking treatment in hospital after getting injured in a clash with law enforcers, and taking off the ropes tied around their waist.
"The High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and
Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order, asking Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, deputy inspector general of Rangpur police and superintendant of Gaibandha to submit a report on executing the order by November 16," said Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua, who submitted the writ petition in this regard.
The court also issued a ruled asking as to why it shall not declare
handcuffing an accused while taking treatment in hospital, illegal and asked Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, deputy inspector general of Rangpur police and superintendant of Gaibandha police to give explanation in two weeks.
