DHAKA The High Court (HC) here today asked all the
universities and colleges to form anti-ragging committee as soon as possible
for preventing physical and mental harassment in the name of ragging.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and
Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following a writ petition filed
by lawyer Ishrat Hasan.
Secretaries of Home Affairs as well as Education Ministries and Chairman of
University Grants Commission (UGC) were also asked to respond with the rule.
The court also wanted to know why the failure of the defendants in setting
principles for protecting students' lives and honour against ragging, would
not be declared illegal.
On October 9, 2019, a legal notice was sent to the authorities concerned,
including UGC, by the lawyer Ishrat Hasan asking to form anti-ragging
committee and anti-ragging squad to monitor ragging incidents within 7 days
at every university.
