HC allows bail to ex-DIG Prisons Bazlur in graft case

The High Court (HC) today allowed bail to former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Md Bazlur Rashid in a graft case, in which he was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order, after holding hearing on a bail plea filed by the convict.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 on October 23, 2022, sentenced Md Bazlur Rashid to five-year imprisonment and fined him Taka 500,000 in the case filed for amassing assets worth over Taka 3.14 crore.

The former DIG was shown arrested on October 20, 2019, from Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) headquarters in capital's Segunbagicha in connection with the case.

Rashid and his wife Razzakun Nahar appeared before the anti-graft body on that day to face grilling about their illegal wealth. In the interrogation, the DIG couldn't give logical answer about his illegal wealth.
