Sylhet:Pacer Hasan Mahmud achieved his fifth Test five-wicket haul, marking his first at home, as West Indies reached 322 for eight at lunch on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Stadium.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Hasan claimed impressive figures of five for 86 from 22 overs. He was particularly effective with the second new ball, securing two wickets in consecutive deliveries in his first over with it. His strategic bowling from around the wicket and wide of the crease led to the dismissal of centurion Amir Jangoo for 133, with a delivery that sharply hit the top of off stump as Jangoo shouldered arms.
Following Jangoo's dismissal, Hasan had West Indies captain Roston Chase caught behind by Liton Das for a first-ball duck. The ball had taken an inside edge as Chase attempted a defense, causing West Indies to slip from 264 for four to 264 for six. Hasan nearly achieved a hat-trick when Joshua Bishop was initially given out, but the decision was overturned on review due to an inside edge onto the pad.
Later, Hasan completed his five-wicket haul in the 90th over. With Liton standing up to the stumps, Bishop was stumped for 23 after losing his balance while attempting a drive, leaving West Indies at 297. The TV umpire's confirmation of the stumping added to Hasan's successful morning.
Earlier in the Test, Hasan had bowled Kavem Hodge for one and ended Kevin Wickham's 131-run partnership with Jangoo by dismissing the debutant for 61. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also contributed by bowling Justin Greaves for 51, while Shamar Joseph survived an lbw decision against Miraz on review before lunch, remaining 16 not out alongside Jomel Warrican, who was nine not out.
Bangladesh faced a setback when opener Shadman Islam was injured in the morning, carried off on a stretcher after twisting his left ankle while fielding. Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan reported that Shadman has sprained his left ankle and is under observation, pending an MRI scan.
