Sylhet:Pacer Hasan Mahmud's stellar bowling show led Bangladesh's fightback as the hosts reduced West Indies to 322-8 at lunch on Day 2 of the second and final cricket Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hasan ended the session with figures of 5-86, marking his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket, which triggered a collapse in the West Indies lineup. The visitors resumed the day at 235-4 and initially appeared to have a strong hold on the match.
Hasan disrupted the West Indies' momentum with a crucial double strike. He first bowled Amir Jangoo for 133, who had added 22 runs to his overnight total, ending a significant 106-run partnership with Justin Greaves. He then claimed the wicket of captain Roston Chase for a duck on the very next delivery.
Hasan's precision bowling continued to trouble the West Indies batsmen. He further capitalized on his form by dismissing Joshua Bishop for 23, completing his five-wicket milestone. Despite Hasan's onslaught, Greaves managed to stabilize the innings, crossing the 300-run mark and reaching his half-century.
Mehidy Miraz contributed to the hosts' efforts by dismissing Greaves for 51, securing Bangladesh's first wicket through spin. At the lunch interval, Shamar Joseph was batting on 16 alongside Jomel Warrican, who was on 9.
However, the session was overshadowed by an injury to Shadman Islam. While chasing a ball to the boundary, Islam twisted his left ankle and had to be stretchered off the field. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for an MRI scan, raising doubts about his ability to open the innings for Bangladesh.
