Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunals (ICT)-2 has today framed charges of crimes against humanity against four individuals, including Awami League joint general secretary Md Mahbubul Alam Hanif. The charges are linked to the killings of six people in Kushtia during the July-August Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, has outlined three specific charges against Hanif, Kushtia district Awami League president Sadar Uddin Khan, general secretary Azgar Ali, and Kushtia city Awami League general secretary Ataur Rahman Khan Ata. All four accused remain at large and are being tried in absentia.
The tribunal has scheduled November 25 for the prosecution to present its opening statement. This follows the ICT-2's decision on October 6 to accept the formal charge in the case, at which time it also issued arrest warrants for the fugitive accused.
