Hajong Community Delegation Meets Deputy Speaker to Discuss Developmental Concerns

Dhaka: A 12-member delegation of the Hajong community from Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona district made a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today. The Hajong Community of Kalmakanda Upazila falls under the constituency of the Deputy Speaker. During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker exchanged greetings with the delegation members and inquired about their overall well-being. He emphasized the longstanding peaceful coexistence of various religious and community groups in his constituency.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Speaker highlighted his plan to enhance public understanding of parliamentary activities by inviting people from all walks of life in phases to visit the parliament complex and observe its proceedings. He mentioned that delegations from different communities, including Christian community representatives and imams, have previously visited. The aim, he stated, is to ensure that people from all communities in his area can learn about the parliament.



The delegation, which included the president and general secretary of the Hajong Upojati Samity, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Speaker for arranging their visit to the parliament. They also brought up several pressing issues, such as the need for temple renovations, supply of safe drinking water, scholarships for Hajong students, employment opportunities for educated youths, promotion of the Hajong language, and infrastructure development in the area.



In response, the Deputy Speaker shared his longstanding relationship with the Hajong community and expressed his commitment to their welfare. He emphasized his moral duty to support the community and mentioned plans to provide scholarships, install deep tube wells to address water shortages, and ensure educational opportunities in the Hajong mother tongue. He also promised to arrange religious education through temple-based programs and provide honorariums from his own funds if necessary.



Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker assured the delegation that necessary measures would be taken for the construction and repair of small bridges, culverts, and roads in the area. His remarks underscored the inclusive nature of the parliament, which exists for all people, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
