Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam announced today that the Facebook page of his office was targeted in a cyber attack while streaming the live proceedings of a trial involving crimes against humanity. The trial concerned three individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the cyber attack occurred during the live broadcast of the prosecution's arguments on the Facebook page 'Office of Chief Prosecutor, International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh.' The page was temporarily disabled but was restored shortly thereafter, as stated by Tajul while addressing the media.
The ICT chief prosecutor asserted that the attackers and their allies aim to suppress global awareness of the brutality and evidence being presented by the prosecution. He emphasized that this intent motivated the cyber attack on their Facebook page.
During today's proceedings, the prosecution presented their arguments against fugitives Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who had previously pleaded guilty and became an approver.
The case featured testimony from a total of 54 prosecution witnesses, including the father of July martyr Abu Sayed, National Citizen's Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, and journalist Mahmudur Rahman, all of whom were cross-examined by the defense lawyer.
