Nilphamari: An infant and her grandmother were killed in a fatal road accident in Ghoramara village at Dimla upazila of the district today. The deceased were 14-day old Samia Akther and her grandmother Surya Khatun, 55, wife of Abdus Sattar of Goyabari School and College area of Dimla upazila in Nilphamari district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, quoting locals, police said the accident occurred when a pickup van hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the area, leaving Samia killed on the spot and injuring her grandmother. Locals rescued Surya Khatun and sent her to Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctors declared her dead.
‘Locals seized the pickup van. But however, the driver managed to escape the scene,’ said Dimla Thana Officer-in-Charge Fazle Elahi.
