Grandmother and Grandson Drown While Bathing in Faridpur River

Faridpur: An elderly woman and her grandson tragically drowned while bathing in the Kumar River at Bhashan Char in Ambikapur Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon. Another grandson of the woman remains missing following the incident.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as 70-year-old Maleka Begum and her grandson, Towsif Mridha. They were from Bhashan Char village. Locals reported that Maleka Begum had gone to the river with her two grandsons, both aged between seven and eight. Before evening, the bodies of Maleka and Towsif were discovered floating in the river and were subsequently recovered by locals.



Family members have confirmed that another grandson, Sowad Mridha, is missing. Sowad, who is the son of Sarfuddin Mridha, was with his grandmother and cousin during the incident. Efforts to locate him have been ongoing, with divers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence searching the river from afternoon till evening, but their search yielded no results.
