Dhaka: Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul today stated that the government’s campaign supporting the upcoming referendum is driven by its dedication to reforms aimed at public welfare and the state’s interest, rather than backing any political party or maintaining power. He made this remark during a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Nazrul was addressing the media following the Council of Advisers’ meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Adviser’s Office earlier in the day. He emphasized that the government’s main objectives since taking office have been reform, trials, and elections, with the referendum scheduled for February 12 being a step towards these goals.

The law adviser highlighted the government’s continuous advocacy for reforms, citing the establishment of the National Consensus Commission and the formulation of the July Charter as initiatives undertaken to promote change. He reiterated the government’s stance of supporting the referendum solely for public and state benefits, not for any political allegiance.

Professor Nazrul further explained that while political parties may differ on methods and processes, none have opposed the concept of reform itself. The government’s campaign, he asserted, is in alignment with its commitment to reforms, reflecting the expectations of the July mass uprising.

The briefing was also attended by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
