Govt to Seek Extradition of Sheikh Hasina, Says Dr Yunus.

DHAKA: Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus announced today that his interim government is set to pursue the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who sought refuge in India following the collapse of the Awami League regime amid a student-led uprising on August 5. Dr Yunus emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims of the July-August killings, stating that the process for holding trials is well underway. He addressed the nation on the occasion of the interim government’s 100-day milestone, with his speech broadcasted by state-run Bangladesh Television and BTV World.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the revolution, approximately 1,500 individuals, including students and workers, were martyred, while 19,931 others sustained injuries. Dr Yunus highlighted the government’s meticulous efforts in gathering information on each death. He assured that provisions have been made for the treatment of the injured in various specialized facilities, includi
ng 13 hospitals located in Dhaka. The list of martyrs continues to grow as the government seeks to address the consequences of the past regime’s dictatorship.
