Jashore: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday announced that the government will introduce LPG cards for women alongside the existing family card programme to alleviate their cooking-related challenges.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister addressed a public rally at the Jashore Central Eidgah Ground, organized by the district BNP, where he highlighted the daily difficulties faced by women in managing food and cooking for their families. Recognizing these hardships, the government decided two days ago to initiate the LPG card plan to aid women in their cooking needs.
Prime Minister Rahman elaborated on the initiative, stating that just as family cards have been provided to mothers, LPG cards will soon be distributed across Bangladesh to ensure women can cook without worry. This initiative will be implemented gradually, he assured.
During his speech, Tarique Rahman emphasized his party’s commitment to public welfare and the belief that people are the source of all power. He reiterated his dedication to completing projects that benefit the populace, including the economic empowerment of women, which was a key promise during his election campaign.
Highlighting the significance of women’s economic independence, the Prime Minister underscored that half of Bangladesh’s population is female, and the country cannot progress if they are left behind. He shared the success of the family card programme, which began as a pilot project and has already benefitted hundreds of families, with plans to expand it to lakhs and eventually crores of families nationwide.
Prime Minister Rahman also referenced the initiatives of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who made education free for girls up to the school and intermediate levels. Building on this legacy, he announced plans to extend free education for girls up to the degree level and provide stipends for those achieving good results, aiming to nurture an educated and capable future generation.
Additionally, he highlighted the government’s support measures for farmers, including the issuance of farmers’ cards, canal excavation, and loan relief. The loan waiver of up to Tk 10,000, benefiting around 12 lakh farmers, was part of these efforts.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening rural families and farmers through various support programmes, aiming to bolster the economic standing of both women and farmers across the country.
