Dhaka: Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam announced that the government aims to create opportunities for persons with disabilities to develop their talents through technology.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faqir emphasized the importance of technology in building a nation where every citizen participates equally in development. He was speaking at the "National IT Competition for Youth with Disabilities 2026" prize-giving ceremony at the University of Asia Pacific.
He highlighted that disability does not limit one's potential and that proper opportunities and training can enable young persons with disabilities to contribute to the country's digital transformation. The government prioritizes enhancing digital skills and technological empowerment for these individuals.
Faqir stated that efforts are underway to create a technology-driven Bangladesh, ensuring equal access to technology for all. He also noted that such competitions not only develop talents but also showcase Bangladesh's capabilities globally.
The event, chaired by Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Nahid Sultana Mallik, saw 70 contestants competing in categories for visually impaired, physically challenged, speech and hearing impaired, and Neuro Developmental Disorder (NDD) participants. Winners in each category will represent Bangladesh at the Global IT Challenge in Vietnam.
Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) Executive Director Khandakar Zahurul Alam, University of Asia Pacific Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, University of Asia Pacific Board of Trustees Chairperson K M Mujibul Haque, contestants, their guardians, and officials were in attendance.
