Dhaka: The government has announced a new initiative to appoint tag officers at all petrol pumps throughout the country. This decision was made during an online meeting chaired by Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting aimed to enhance the supervision and coordination of Bangladesh’s energy management activities amidst the current global context. As part of this initiative, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will be responsible for appointing tag officers in the metropolitan areas of Dhaka and Chattogram.
For districts and divisional cities outside Dhaka and Chattogram, the appointment of tag officers will fall under the jurisdiction of the concerned deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers. They will designate a government official as a tag officer for each petrol pump within their respective areas.
Additionally, the meeting’s decision mandates that all relevant entities appoint a government official as a tag officer for every petrol pump and provide related information to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. These tag officers will adhere to the prescribed guidelines of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division/BPC and will be required to submit daily reports, as mentioned in the handout.
