Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the government of Bangladesh is determined to ensure the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through established legal procedures and existing extradition mechanisms. The minister emphasized the formal approach taken by the government to facilitate her return to face legal proceedings in Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin Ahmed, during a press briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat, highlighted that a formal request has been submitted via diplomatic channels. This request is part of the government's effort to bring Sheikh Hasina back under the terms of the existing extradition treaty. The intention is to ensure that she faces the cases filed against her in Bangladesh, following due legal process.
Addressing inquiries on India's Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the minister clarified that these issues are internal to India. He stated that Bangladesh respects India's sovereignty in handling its legal and administrative matters, and thus, it is not appropriate for Bangladesh to comment on them.
Despite this stance, Salahuddin Ahmed assured that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is on high alert to prevent any illegal infiltration or push-in across the border. He reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining law and order within the country and ensuring justice through lawful and institutional frameworks.
