Dhaka: As part of the government’s efforts to ensure a stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), three cargoes totaling 96 Metric Million British Thermal Units (MMBtu) have been imported from the spot market up to today. Meanwhile, eight additional cargoes are scheduled to arrive within May to maintain the supply chain.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, AKM Mizanur Rahman, Director of Petrobangla, stated that the state-run company has secured a total of 11 LNG cargoes for May, with three already received. Additionally, a contract has been finalized for the import of another four cargoes in June to meet the ongoing demand.

Relevant sources indicate that the government is consistently importing LNG and is making arrangements to procure it from alternative sources to prevent any disruption in the gas supply. This proactive approach aims to ensure a continuous flow of LNG to meet national energy requirements.

According to Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), nine LNG cargoes were imported in April. Of these, eight were sourced from the spot market and one from QatarEnergy Trading (QET) under a long-term agreement. The imports originated from Australia, the United States, and Angola, reflecting a diverse supply strategy to bolster energy security.
