Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today announced that the interim government is dedicated to maintaining the affordability of essential commodities throughout the holy month of Ramadan. He addressed this initiative during a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam highlighted that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus had directed relevant government agencies last October to concentrate their efforts on keeping essential goods’ prices within a tolerable range during Ramadan. The agencies have since worked intensively towards this goal, resulting in data indicating that prices for most essential items have remained stable compared to the previous year.

Alam assured that the interim government will continue its efforts to manage the prices of essential goods throughout Ramadan. He noted that items such as dates and chickpeas typically see price increases during this period. To counter this trend, the Commerce Ministry, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh Bank, and the Traffic Commission are working together to keep these goods affordable.

He further noted that the government is actively monitoring and increasing the supply of edible oil to ensure its availability and affordability. “We are expecting that the supply scenario of edible oil will be better in the coming days…we hope its price will go down and remain at tolerable level,” Alam added.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder also attended the briefing, reinforcing the government’s commitment to this initiative.
