Dhaka: Newly appointed Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the citizens, stating that their primary goal is to serve the people. On his first day at the ministry office, he addressed reporters, underscoring the government’s responsibility and dedication to the populace.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul, who also serves as the BNP Secretary General, assured that existing challenges will be tackled through collective efforts, and local government elections will be conducted promptly. In response to queries, he expressed his intent to operate in alignment with public expectations and directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The minister highlighted the government’s focus on addressing issues faced by farmers, workers, women, and the unemployed. Fakhrul also downplayed concerns about the country’s law and order situation and economic conditions, suggesting they are not as dire as perceived.
He assured there would be no rise in mob culture and emphasized the growing trust in law enforcement agencies. Fakhrul appealed for cooperation across party lines, stressing the importance of public participation in national development. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam and Local Government Division Secretary Rezaul Maksud Jahedi were present during the briefing.
