Govt Pledges to Modernize Bangladesh Police for Enhanced Public Safety

Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Bangladesh Police into a modern, technology-driven and people-friendly force to strengthen the rule of law, ensure public safety, and create an investment-friendly environment. “A professional and efficient police force is indispensable for safeguarding democracy and establishing justice,” he said.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin Ahmed made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a special conference of senior police officials at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium. He referred to the 19-point programme of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s “Vision 2030”, emphasizing the government’s aim to uphold the rule of law at every level under the slogan “Bangladesh First”. The minister highlighted that ending enforced disappearances, killings, and extrajudicial deaths remains a major priority for the government.



The Home Minister praised the professionalism of Bangladesh Police, noting their contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and their role in maintaining security at the Rohingya camps. Expressing optimism about the force, he urged police personnel to perform their duties with patriotism, honesty, and integrity to help build a prosperous Bangladesh.



The conference was also addressed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury as special guests. Additional IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department Mosleh Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech, while Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir gave the vote of thanks. Police Headquarters IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain was also present.



During the conference, Salahuddin Ahmed listened to various demands raised by senior police officials and assured them that the government would implement these gradually, considering financial capacity, priorities, and affordability. He stressed the importance of improving police performance, stating that the implementation of many demands would largely depend on efficiency and professionalism. Senior officials of Bangladesh Police, including Additional IGPs, DIGs, Additional DIGs, and Superintendents of Police, attended the conference.
