Dhaka: Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam announced in Jatiya Sangsad today that plans are underway to establish franchise post offices and post pick-up points through entrepreneurs under the Postal Department’s supervision. “The process of selecting suitable locations for these facilities is currently underway,” he stated in response to a starred question from opposition MP Md. Mahbubur Rahman (Belal), elected from Rangpur-3.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing and expanding postal services to improve service quality, speed, and accessibility for citizens nationwide. He highlighted that several citizen-centric services are already being delivered through the postal network, including the home delivery of land documents, bulk delivery of passports, and home delivery of driving licenses.

To meet the growing demand from customers, the Bangladesh Post Office is planning to introduce cash-on-delivery services for e-commerce products. The Minister also mentioned that under the traffic management activities of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, video-based traffic violation notices and other traffic-related notifications are sent to recipients using postal services.

To support the expanding e-commerce and f-commerce sectors in the country, 14 fulfillment centers have been established in different regions. These centers will aid in product collection, storage, processing, booking, sorting, transportation, and distribution activities.

Efforts are underway to enhance real-time online tracking and tracing facilities via the Domestic Mail Monitoring System (DMS) software. The Bangladesh Post Office continues to offer the country’s lowest-cost postal and parcel delivery services and provides affordable international parcel delivery through its Express Mail Service (EMS).

Moreover, the Minister noted that seasonal fruits from major fruit-producing regions are being safely and quickly transported at minimal cost through postal services. He expressed optimism that once these ongoing initiatives are fully implemented, postal services will become more efficient, accessible, and beneficial for the public.
