Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin announced that the government is set to amend the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, alongside efforts to bolster administrative capacity. Addressing an event focused on “Strengthening Consumer Rights,” organized by the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection (DNCRP), Bashir emphasized the necessity of institutional development to hold wrongdoers accountable.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, accusing her of damaging multiple institutions and contributing to market syndication that has adversely affected consumer rights. He stressed the importance of rebuilding these institutions to protect consumers effectively.
Bashir highlighted that increased market monitoring has provided a sense of relief to consumers. He assured that the commerce ministry is committed to ensuring market stability and enhancing consumer comfort.
