Dhaka: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has announced initiatives to install solar power systems in government buildings across 21 districts in the country. This initiative aims to equip the offices of Deputy Commissioners, Police Supers, and hospitals with solar panels within the next two to three months. He made this announcement while virtually inaugurating the installation of rooftop solar power at Zobaida Korim Jute Mills Limited in Faridpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the State Minister encouraged private companies to emulate the government's initiative, citing Zobaida Korim Jute Mill as a model for other private enterprises. The inauguration was attended by Power Secretary Minara Mahrukh, Additional Secretary and Chairman of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited Noor Ahmed, among others. The event also included a views exchange meeting with officials.
JA Solar International Ltd, China, has been tasked with installing the solar power system that will have the capacity to generate 4.29 MW of power. Additionally, SMA Solar Technology AG, China, will provide solar panels with Net Meter facilities, as per the project details. The State Minister emphasized that the government is actively pursuing various renewable energy initiatives to decrease reliance on fossil fuel imports.
