Dhaka: The Interim government has unveiled an extensive month-long programme to honor the first anniversary of the July mass uprising. This initiative, announced by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, aims to reflect on the events and bring the nation together in remembrance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki disclosed the details of the commemorative events at a press conference on June 19. The programme is set to start on July 1, with the main events scheduled from July 14 to August 5. The overarching goal of the programme is to reignite the unity that characterized Bangladesh during the uprising.

The commemoration will kick off on July 1 with prayers in various places of worship, a mass signature campaign, and the announcement of a special July calendar. This day will also see the launch of scholarships in memory of the July martyrs.

On July 5, a nationwide postering campaign will highlight the oppression carried out by the ousted Awami government. July 7 will mark the launch of the website Julyforever.org to further the cause.

As part of the main events beginning July 14, the day will be designated as July Women’s Day, featuring a variety of activities including video screenings, testimonies from martyr families, and the establishment of memorials across districts. July 15 and 16 will continue with similar commemorative events, including ‘VR shows,’ remembrance activities, and drone exhibits.

The days following will showcase a blend of video sharing, rallies, symbolic events, and screenings. Notable dates include July 19, marked as the day of resistance against genocide, and July 24, dedicated to the memory of child martyrs.

The programme will feature diverse cultural showcases such as theater plays, poetry recitations, graffiti exhibitions, and book fairs, culminating in various student gatherings and musical performances by the end of the month.
