Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced today that the government is actively pursuing both legal and diplomatic avenues to repatriate former Inspector General of Police, Benazir Ahmed, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). "Alongside the legal process, the government is actively engaging diplomatic channels to facilitate his return to Bangladesh," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Minister responded to journalists' inquiries at the Secretariat, revealing that Benazir Ahmed has been granted conditional bail by a UAE court, which currently prevents him from leaving the UAE. He further explained that the government has engaged a law firm in the UAE to acquire a certified copy of the court's order and to file a petition for the cancellation of the bail.
"The necessary documents for his formal repatriation are also being prepared for submission to the court," the minister confirmed. He also mentioned that the government is considering the possibility that Benazir Ahmed might hold passports from multiple countries, which will influence their legal strategy.
