Dhaka: Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali emphasized the critical need for ensuring the safe use of digital technology during a daylong training workshop on 'Cyber Security and Digital Safeguarding'. Held on the third floor of the university cafeteria, the event was organized by the University's Scholarship Support Office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop aimed to enhance information security awareness and address cyber risks, in collaboration with KiK and GIZ. Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali, serving as the chief guest, highlighted the importance for students to not only master technology but also understand cyber security, digital safeguarding, data privacy, and digital ethics.
The workshop featured Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud as the guest of honor and keynote speaker. He provided insights into various cybercrimes, online fraud prevention, personal information protection, strong password management, safe social media usage, and effective cyber risk strategies.
Prof Dr Md Ferdous Rahman, the university's Proctor and Registrar (Additional Charge), attended as a special guest. In his address, Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali underscored the significance of such training in developing students into responsible digital citizens. He assured that the university would persist in organizing similar activities to enhance students' skills and ensure a safe digital environment.
The workshop saw participation from students across different departments, who concluded the event with a pledge to raise cyber security awareness and foster a secure digital landscape.
