Dhaka: The government has directed all public schools to reserve one seat per class for children from families affected by the July Uprising in the 2025 academic session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division issued this order, which revokes a previous directive from February 20 concerning admissions from families impacted by the July-August uprising. The newly issued order mandates that in addition to the existing seats allocated through lottery for family members of those injured or martyred during the July Uprising-2024, an additional seat should be reserved in every class specifically for these families.
Families seeking admission under this provision must attach a certified copy of relevant documents or a gazette to their application and present the original at the time of admission. The admission process will proceed after thorough verification of these documents and the official gazette from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs regarding the July Uprising-2024 martyrs.
The order also stipulates that if no eligible family members are found, the reserved seat will be allocated to a student from the merit list, ensuring that no seat remains vacant. This directive, signed by Deputy Secretary Rahima Akhtar, is applicable solely for the 2025 academic year.
