Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the government is actively working to ensure proper recognition of the talents of innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and creative individuals by establishing a modern, easy, and effective service system. This initiative includes measures like online registration, expedited services, strengthened legal protection, and actions against counterfeit products.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister’s announcement came in a message issued on the occasion of ‘World Intellectual Property Day,’ which will be observed tomorrow in Bangladesh alongside other countries worldwide. In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of ‘World Intellectual Property Day 2026’ for the country’s accelerated development, particularly in light of this year’s theme, ‘IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.’ He described the theme as significant and timely, especially in harnessing the intellectual potentials of the youth.

Tarique Rahman expressed his firm belief that the protection of intellectual property encourages innovation, creativity, and new ideas, playing a vital role in sports technology, athlete training systems, branding of sports goods, the broadcasting industry, digital content, and entrepreneurship development. He noted with satisfaction that Bangladesh is enriched with a vibrant youth population and emphasized the importance of intellectual property protection as a key prerequisite for national progress in the current era of rapid advancements in information technology, agriculture, industry, research, startups, and the creative economy.

Highlighting the importance of safeguarding traditional Bangladeshi products, the Prime Minister stated that the government is committed to securing international recognition and protection for geographical indication (GI) local products such as Jamdani and Hilsa, thereby strengthening their position in the global market. He also noted that the inclusion of sports in this year’s theme is highly justified, as sports has evolved beyond entertainment into a promising profession, a source of social strength, and an emerging economic sector.

Tarique Rahman mentioned the introduction of initiatives such as allowances and sports cards for national athletes to ensure their financial security and dignified life. Furthermore, efforts are underway to identify new talents across the country, expand modern training facilities, and build a world-class sporting environment. The Prime Minister expressed hope that these initiatives would create new opportunities in sports-based industries, production of sports goods, branding, sports media, tourism, investment, and employment.
