Dhaka: The government is actively working to uphold the essence of the July Mass Uprising by prioritizing the rehabilitation of martyrs’ families and ensuring comprehensive medical treatment and economic support for injured July fighters. Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Aazam Khan made this announcement while chairing a meeting of the ‘Central Committee on Welfare and Rehabilitation of Families of Martyrs and July Fighters of the July Mass Uprising’ in the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs’ conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Khan emphasized the collaboration between the ministry and the newly established Directorate of July Mass Uprising to support the families and injured fighters, ensuring no negligence occurs. Reaffirming the government’s dedication to assist those impacted by the July ’24 violence, he stated, ‘The current government is committed to building Bangladesh with the spirit of the July Mass Uprising.’
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain highlighted the priority of medical treatment and rehabilitation for the injured. He conveyed the goal of providing priority-based medical care and rehabilitation for injured July fighters and martyrs’ families. ‘We are extremely vigilant and proactive to ensure that the injured July fighters can become economically self-reliant and maintain their standard of living,’ he added, stressing the government’s efforts to transcend political biases in service delivery.
Secretary of the ministry, Ashraful Islam, addressed the importance of accuracy and transparency in the list of July fighters and martyrs. He assured that errors and complaints are being thoroughly investigated, and applications are being scrutinized at the district level with appropriate verification of medical certificates. The objective is to create an accurate and transparent list, ensuring rightful beneficiaries are not excluded, and ineligible individuals do not gain undue advantage.
The meeting was attended by Rokeya Begum, member of Parliament for Reserved Women’s Seat-345 and mother of July martyr Jabir, along with the Chief Executive Officer of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation and other concerned officials. Representatives of the martyrs’ families and July fighters, nominated by the government, were also present, highlighting the inclusive approach of the government in addressing the needs of those affected by the July Mass Uprising.
