Govt Initiates Construction of Longest Bridge Linking Bhola and Barishal

Dhaka: The government is set to embark on constructing the nation’s longest bridge, which will span approximately 11 kilometers, connecting the island district of Bhola with Barishal. The project is estimated to cost Taka 17,000 crore, marking a significant infrastructural development for the region.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an official from the Bridge Division revealed that Japanese firm Miyagawa Construction Ltd has shown interest in undertaking this ambitious construction project. The Deputy Commissioner of Bhola District, Md. Azad Jahan, indicated that the bridge’s construction might commence during the interim government’s term.



Officials have noted Japan’s keen interest in initiating the bridge’s construction. Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Sheikh Moinuddin, during a recent visit to Bhola district, emphasized the bridge’s importance, stating that the Bhola-Barisal bridge would be among the largest globally. The commencement of the project is anticipated by January.
