Dhaka: The interim government today announced the formation of a committee tasked with restructuring the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), a specialized law enforcement agency comprising personnel from the three armed services and the police. This development was confirmed by home affairs adviser, retired Lieutenant General M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, following a meeting of the advisory council on law and order at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury stated that the newly formed committee will deliberate on the reorganization of RAB, including potential changes to its name, uniform, and operational strategies. The committee’s formation signifies a significant step towards evaluating and potentially transforming the structure and function of this key security unit.
Officials indicated that the committee will be led by chief adviser’s special assistant, retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz, and will initially comprise five members. However, the committee retains the flexibility to expand and include additional members if deemed necessary to fulfill its objectives effectively.
