Govt Focuses on Uninterrupted Internet Services Nationwide: Minister

Cox’s bazar: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam today stated that the government is working relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted and affordable internet services for all. To deliver the internet service across the country, the minister urged all concerned to work concertedly.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakir Mahbub Anam made these remarks while addressing a discussion titled ‘Internet for All’ as the chief guest at the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner. Prime Minister’s Adviser Rehan Asif Asad, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, and Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman also spoke at the meeting as special guests.



The minister emphasized the importance of uninterrupted internet connectivity, particularly for ensuring security in the coastal and fisheries sectors. He highlighted the necessity of introducing satellite-based internet services for fishermen working at sea to aid in cyclone warnings, piracy prevention, and emergency communication.



The government is committed to expanding digital services nationwide, especially in tourism-centric areas like Cox’s Bazar. Free Wi-Fi services have already been introduced at airports and railway stations, and there are ongoing efforts to enhance internet access up to the upazila level. The government is also focusing on developing skills in freelancing and artificial intelligence (AI) to bring technology to people’s doorsteps.



Rehan Asif Asad reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the quality of telecommunications services across the country. Measures have been taken to swiftly address existing issues, including delays in BTCL services. Efforts will continue to expand free Wi-Fi and improve mobile network services in Cox’s Bazar through strategic investment and planning.



The meeting was chaired by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. A. Mannan. Representatives of civil society, various stakeholders, media personnel, and officials from different departments shared their views at the event.
